[BLDG-SIM] natural ventilation modeling using DOE 2

Peter;
DOE2 is not a great tool for naturally ventilated building analysis.

However, I recently used the sunspace venting commands for this. There
are special requirements for this zone type (must be attached to a
non-sunspace zone in some manner, accurate geometric representation of
all surfaces including interiors...), limitations, caveats, and some
gross simplifications in venting flow calcs. So you must be careful
and check the hourly zone temps and flows. However, most system types
can be applied to a sunspace zone, as opposed to the natural
ventilation keywords which work in their odd manner only with PSZ
systems. Can't say from here if using sunspaces is "quick and
appropriate," for your model, though.

I seem to recall that the units given for zone keyword SS-VENT-xx
(ach, ach/knot, ach/degF) in my copy of the E "supplement" manual
differed from the units apparently used in the actual program (DOE2.1e
JJH v133). (I think the temperature correlation factor appeared to be
cfm/degF, but I seem to be having a little laptop/desktop
discontinuity and can't find the deck I debugged.) Repeat: Check
hourly reports of pertinent zone variables!

Please don't grovel next time; just offer a lifetime of free Arup CFD
analysis to the lucky winner.

Hope this helps;
