[BLDG-SIM] VAV fume hood exhaust

Hi Renee-

Regarding your question, I went through the same situation recently using VisualDOE (DOE2.1).
First with 100% OA, the return fan will act as the exhaust fan. Since labs with fumehoods are typically
exhaust driven I sized the supply air cfm according to the fumehood capacity. Usually a lab won't operate
with fumehoods running at full capacity 24-7 and some assuptions have to made regarding a diversity factor.
I found two ways to implement this:
1 - alter the defined supply air amount to model a CV system
2 - in the DOE2 input file add a schedule to min-cfm-ratio to alter the minimum damper position, but this gets a little tricky to get exactly what you want...

I have more experience in TRNSYS than DOE2 and I opted to go in that direction.
TRNSYS lets you define all of your system components and schedules. This makes set-up a little more
complex, but the final product is exactly what you need...hopefully ;)

Has anyone modeled a VAV fume hood exhaust for a laboratory in eQuest? Since the laboratory requires 100% outside air, a return fan is not simulated obviously. The exhaust fan part on the air-handling unit fan page of eQuest doesn't seem to be able to be modeled. If I put the exhaust in each zone, then I can't specify that the fans are VAV. Please let me know if you have had luck with modeling this type of system in eQuest.
Thanks,
Renee
