Hi-
You should try and get in touch with Prof Harvey Bryan from Arizona State 
University. He has done extensive reasearch on the Urban Heat Island 
phenomenon in Tempe and Phoenix, Arizona, which also included experimental 
evaluation.
Prof Bryan would be a great resource, and would be able to provide adequate 
guidance both for your theoretical and experimental research. He has also 
published a couple of papers on the topic.
