Hello,
I am trying to extract hourly/ daily rainfall data from a TMY2 weather
file. I have pasted the EPW file in excel, with their respective
headers. According to the documentation on EPW and TMY2 formats, the
rainfall data is in the field, "Present Weather Codes", which is a 9
digit code, the 2nd digit of which indicates rainfall values as follows:
0=Light Rain
1= Moderate Rain
2= Heavy Rain
3= Light Rain showers
4= Moderate rain showers
5= Heavy rain showers
6= Light freezing rain
7= Moderate freezing rain
8= Heavy freezing rain
9= None/ unknown/ missing
Further notes say that
Light= up to 0.25 cm/hour
Moderate= 0.28 to 0.76 cm/ hour
Heavy= greater than 0.76 cm/ hour
I am confused with this note. Do "Light Rain" and "Light Rain showers"
mean the same amount of rain, since they are both "Light"? In other
words, is there a definition of the range of rainfall in cm/ hour
between values of 0 to 5. Do values 6, 7 and 8 mean the same amount of
rainfall as 3, 4 and 5 respectively, just with a lower temperature?
Any help with this format will be greatly appreciated.
Regards.
