Greetings BLDG-SIMmers,

Has anyone run across an explanation/quantification of how an effective thermal break might be provided for metal studs installed for furring on the inside of existing concrete walls?

An architect's detail from outside to inside, shows an existing 8" concrete walls abutted against a 3-5/8" metal studs with furring installed 24" o/c with batt insulation, and gyp board for the finished side. The overall U-value is certainly a lot better than the bare concrete, but it would be improved if the metal studs weren't in direct contact with the concrete.

Any thoughts on how to quantify this arrangements?

...Tom
