Regarding the difference among PVVT, PVAVS, and the PSZ systems, please refer the DOE-2.2 manual Volume 3: Topics ( http://doe2.com/download/DOE-22/DOE22Vol3-Topics.pdf).

Basically, the difference among these three systems is the way to control supply airflow and temperature in response to varied heating and cooling loads. Starting from version 44d3 of DOE-2.2 (eQUEST version 3.6), these three systems can all be used to simulate the airside of the water-to-air heat pumps that attach to a WLHP water loop. If you use wizard to create a GSHP system, the airside system is PVVT with a set of defaults for WLHP application. These defaults include: MIN-FLOW-RATIO = 1 for fan; CONDENSER-TYPE = WATER-COOLED, which is attached to a WLHP water loop; HEAT-SOURCE = HEAT-PUMP. Consequently, the default performance curves are those for representative GSHP. With PVVT system, eQUEST/DOE-2.2 has more flexibility to simulate WLHP system, such as the water-to-air heat pump with staged capacity and airflow, DOAS with combination of ERV and water-to-air heat pump.

In the detailed mode, you can build a GSHP system with airside to be PVVT, PVAVS, or PSZ. But, keep in mind, you need manually change the corresponding parameters as discussed above. If you tend to use PVAVS system as the airside of WLHP (though it is unusual), you'd be cautious about the MIN-FLOW-RATIO. It should be lower than 1 to avoid overcooling the space.

Hope it helps,

Xiaobing

Subject: [BLDG-SIM] Gshp in detailed edit mode

Hello -

in eQUEST, I understand that using a gshp is easy with the wizard, but I am now using the detailed edit mode and it is not as simple. I have created the water loop and the hvac system that goes along with it, but what "system type" is appropriate to simulate a gshp? The default option is a packaged var vol var temp unit - but the users manuals specify that PVVT, PVAVS, and PSZ systems can be used. What is the difference between these three types, and could the "water loop" heat pump work?

Thanks!

Bridgette
