Brian,

Duct energy loss due to leakage is a real, significant problem that is well
documented. Check out http://epb1.lbl.gov/aerosol/index.html for more
publications on duct leakage and aerosol sealing. You might want to contact
Dr. Mark Modera for his experience with the duct sealing technologies
(mpmodera at lbl.gov; mark.modera <mailto:modera at carrier.utc.com>
@carrier.utc.com).

Subject: [BLDG-SIM] HVAC duct losses and energy impact

1) Any real world data on new and older building HVAC duct losses, or
anecdotal evidence or opinions about significance of duct losses on energy
usage?

2) There are commercial retrofit and new duct sealing technologies that go
beyond standard seam sealing. Any experience or opinions about the
effectiveness and energy savings benefit of any of those?

Thanks,

Brian Thornton PE
