LEED 2.2 v.1 Reference Manual, Page 182 under the Process Energy Header.
"Process energy cost shall be equal to at

least 25% of the Baseline Building Performance."

ASHRAE 90.1-2004 App G, Table G3.1 Section 12.

Receptacle and other Loads

Receptacle and process loads, such as those for office and other

equipment, shall be estimated based on the building type or space

type category and shall be assumed to be identical in the proposed

and baseline building designs, except as specifically authorized by

the rating authority. These loads shall be included in simulations of

the building and shall be included when calculating the baseline

building performance and proposed building performance.

Please correct me if I am misinterpreting something.

Thanks.

Dear Seth,

What makes you think that process loads must be a minimum of 25%? As I
understand process load, there's often NO such load in a building... and
I did not think that there was any requirement to model it if it did not
exist.

Got a paragraph number in 90.1 which refers to that? (I cannot find
one.)

Subject: [Bldg-sim] Plant Process Loads

Hello All,

I am in the planning stage of modeling a campus boiler plant. I have two
questions as follows:

1) ASHRAE/LEED require a minimum process energy of 25% of the
total building energy. I am predicting that my plant (15 boilers plus
pumps etc.) process load will be 95% of my buildings energy use if not
more. Is there a way to reduce the process energy use of the plant for
energy modeling purposes other than an exceptional calculation method?

2) Is this a situation where I could perform an exceptional
calculation and compare a "standard" boiler plant to the high efficiency
one that is being installed?

Thanks in advance for your help.
