Try contacting Dick Ainsley of Big Ass fans as he has a great deal of
experience with this system in Asia and Australia.

Subject: [Bldg-sim] Any clues? -- Ceiling Fans in South East Asia

Dear all,

Is there a (well documented) relationship between convective air flow
against the skin versus the thermal comfort expectation lowered
(theoretical deg. F raised for zone thermostat set-point)?

I am trying to ascertain the cooling benefit of low power high-speed
ceiling fans that are prevalent in South-East Asia. They are especially
useful in better air distribution and heat transfer from the skin of the
occupants via convection. For modeling the strategy is going to be two
fold -- [1] model the actual (low) fan power for the fans in each space
considered, and [2] model a different (higher) thermostat set-point
expectation since thermal comfort cannot be modeled in eQuest. Does this
seem okay? -- Looking for peer validation.

Thanks in advance.

regards,
Neeraj
