[Bldg-sim] Energy Simulation and External Environment Shading Requirements

My intention was more on the negative aspects of the shading rather than in
the positive influence of it.

Suppose that you have a south façade. The building will perform better with
the façade exposed to the sun but the performance will change completely if
the façade is in shade in winter time. Hence my question: There are
requirements on this regard? If so , what are they?

Thanks,

-A.

I don't know of any that REQUIRE it. LEED is the most popular bldg rating
system in the USA. They ALLOW you to take credit for external shading from
permanent features (example: another building or self shading from a portion
of your own bldg) in the proposed building model. The baseline building
model that you are comparing yourself to does not get to take credit for
external shading.

Requirements

I want to ask if there are countries that require to include the influence
of the external environment for the energy simulation performance of a
building in a Building Energy Rating system.

By external environment I mean surrounding buildings, trees, etc.

If there are such requirements can you tell (and give reference) what they
are? For instance: Which buildings? How far you take the surroundings from
the building? Etc.

Will appreciate your answers.

Best,

-A.
