[Bldg-sim] IES-VE Simplifying HVAC Zones for Apartments

HI All,

I am currently working on a project that involves many apartment blocks,
many of which do not have a typical floor plan. I am running an IES-VE
Energy model to ASHRAE standards for LEED NC submission and have a
particular query regarding the level of simplification that would be
acceptable for submission.

With regards to the HVAC system: I am assuming that the apartments will
have fan coil units conditioning the zones in the apartment, perhaps one
fan coil unit per two zones (bedrooms) in some cases. In order to
streamline the model I wish to enquire whether it would be acceptable to
group each apartment into one HVAC system with one cooling coil per
apartment, sized for the entire apartment. This in comparison to the
more time consuming method of

having a HVAC system for independent zones in each apartment.

Effectively I wish to assign one HVAC system to each apartment, as
opposed to designating a HVAC to the independent zones.

If anybody has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Ed
