Jamie Gagne gave a demonstration of the program developed at MIT to suggest optimum window size + shading + glazing combination. It was pretty cool. All you need to input is the sketch up block geometry and specify illumination and glare criteria.
I am not sure about the commercial availability of this though.

Can anyone advise if there is a daylighting program that uses intended illumination levels to generate window options? I remember reading about one long ago from an article by Eliyahu Ne'Eman: I believe from LBL UC(Berk.). I never heard of it since that article in Energy & Buildings.
