[Bldg-sim] JWT Q2 - Energy Plus Calibration Experience

Dear Josh,

As a start, "as-built" should really be "as-measured" by you or a reliable
tech.

The "measured" values should include:

. Power for all major equipment

. Flow for all major fans and pumps

. Zone and discharge air temp setpoints

. Schedules of (real) operation (If you have a BMS which trends
operation, that's a good place to start. If not, plan to talk to
knowledgeable people)

. Actual weather (you might check out www.weatheranalytics.com)

. There will still be unknowns / unknowables, such as infiltration.
Those can be adjusted within reasonable limits for a better fit.

. Start by narrowing down the list of variables that are not know
with certainty and do NOT assume that things are as shown on plans!

p.s., I've worked up an interface between GenOpt (Dr. Michael Wetter at
LBNL) and E+ which makes iterative runs of E+ until it has a "Best fit".
It's still in the "development" stage, but seems to work well. Please send
a private message if you're interested in trying it out.

Subject: [Bldg-sim] JWT Q2 - Energy Plus Calibration Experience

Good Morning Sim Board,

The project I am working on requires a level of calibration between my
AS-BUILT simulations and metered data for the facility. Would anyone please
be able to comment on their previous calibration experiences? Does E+ tend
to simulate certain loads under or over for instance? Do systems/components
tend to run true to their real life equivalents, or are similar deviations
common?

Thank you,

Josh
