[Bldg-sim] ENVI-met and other Microclimate Simulators

Hi Arpan,

I ever used Envi-met for my research purpose before. It was the sole tool
which was able to correlate the impacts of plants and outdoor climate by the
time. Personally I believe it is a good tool and easy to pick up:
Pros:
- It is free
- You will get technical support easily if you join its mailing group
- It is able to cover your areas except for PMV values (I am not very sure
whether it is able to generate PMV values in the latest version). I guess
post-process calculation is necessary provided you have established outdoor
or semi-outdoor thermal comfort models.

Cons:
- A Little bit time consuming since it is sort of CFD calculation
- The vegetation database is from Germany. Let's say you are going to
analyze an outdoor environment in a tropical country, you probably need to
pay attention to this issue. Personally I do not think the database can be
directly applied to all climate conditions.

I only know Energy+ has a rooftop garden module and it may be able to do
similar calculation. Unfortunately, I have no experience in that area.
Anyone who knows Energy+ well can comment?

 Regards,

Cheney
