[Bldg-sim] Underground Parking Garages Exhaust Rates

Felipe,

1. ASHRAE 62.1-2004 Table 6.4 (Minimum Exhaust Rates) has a category
for “parking garage,” not “parking spaces” apply the area of the whole
enclosed parking lot, including drive aisle (but excluding enclosed spaces
of other use types, such as mech rooms, stairwells, etc.)

2. IEQc2 is all about increasing the “breathing zone outdoor air
ventilation rates,” which corresponds to the outdoor air requirements of
the VRP calculation and Table 6-1. Parking garages are not part of this
calculation, so you are not required to increase the exhaust rate by 30%.
In fact you may have noticed that section 6.2.8 doesn’t even require that
the air you exhaust from the garage be made up with fresh air, you can use
any combination of outdoor, recirculated and transfer air.

Subject: [Bldg-sim] Underground Parking Garages Exhaust Rates

Dear All,

According to 62.1-2004 we have to consider an exhaust rate of 0,75 cfm/ft2
(or 3,7 l/s m2) for parking garages.

To do the calculations I have a couple of questions:

1. Do we have to include the streets within the parking lot on the area
calculation or only the parking area (where the cars actually park)?

2. In projects seeking LEED NCv3 IEQc2 "Increased ventilation". Do we have
to consider a 30% increase on the parking exhaust rate or that only apply
for ventilation rates?

Kind Regards,
