[Bldg-sim] single-family detached residential prototype models?

I've developed quite a few (perhaps the earliest) residential prototypes in my former
days at LBNL: (1) 5 single-family and townhouse models for DOE (1981-1987), (2) 66
multi-family models for the Gas Research Institute (1985-1987), and (3) 120+
single-family models for GRI (1988-1992). I've also adapted the single-family building
model as the basic model behind the RESFEN program, and kept it updated through 2008 for
DOE's EnergyStar Window analysis.

I have paper copies of the technical reports, and still functioning copies of the DOE-2.1E
input files and parametric procedures. I can upload these if there is still interest in
this 20-year old work.
Other sources you should consider are :
   (1) Building America Program at NREL ("Building America Performance Analysis
Procedures", by Hendron, Anderson, et al. 2004)
   (2) the DEER program in California ("DEER - Database for Energy Efficient Resources",
California Energy Commission, http://www.energyca.gov/deer)

I think if you're sticking only with EnergyPlus models, you will be missing out on a lot
of previous work and experience.

My other comment is to not get too distracted by a multitude of building models that
differ by code-required R-values, as seems to be the case with the PNNL IECC files. In my
work, I've regarded these as simply permutations of a single model depending on location
and vintage. For example, the single-family building model I now use for my window
analysis is parameterized so that the building size, shell thermal integrities, and even
number of floors are macro inputs feeding a single master model. That to me was the only
way to manage large data bases with tens of thousands of runs.

Joe
