Sustainable Design / Technology Tenure-track position

The Department of Architecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio invites qualified individuals to apply for one tenure-track position in Sustainable Design / Technology at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August 2015.

 

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate potential for conducting scholarly research in their area of expertise, for linking their research interests with their teaching, and providing leadership in teaching and research. Areas of expertise may include building envelope systems, electric and daylight systems, building systems integration, advanced and high performance building systems, building performance analysis, post occupancy evaluation, life cycle analysis, energy efficient buildings, CFD analysis, or related areas. Teaching responsibilities include building technology courses, seminars, and architectural design studios at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervision of research students and participation in studio reviews.  

 

Requirements

Successful candidates for this position should be able to demonstrate expertise in their area of focus along with the ability to integrate their specialty area into the design studio. Further, successful candidates are expected to conduct original research in their area of expertise commensurate with their qualifications. In addition, successful candidates are expected to make service contributions both within the University, College, and Department as well as make service contributions within the community. Courses are offered either at the UTSA downtown Campus or the Main Campus.

 

Minimum degree requirements for these positions include either a Master of Architecture degree or a terminal degree in Architecture accompanied by professional experience. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in Architecture or a related discipline, professional registration, or previous teaching experience in the discipline.

 

Candidates must have completed all requirements for the Master of Architecture degree by the date of hire or, if ABD, able to complete their Ph.D. within one year of the date of hire. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

 

The Department of Architecture offers fully accredited degree programs in Architecture (M. Arch) and Interior Design (BS Interior Design) and a research degree, an MS in Architecture with two concentrations: Historic Preservation and Sustainable Architecture. The department is housed within the College of Architecture, Construction, and Planning (CACP) which has programs in Construction Science and Management (BSCSM), Urban and Regional Planning (MSURP), Certificates in Historic Preservation and Urban and Regional Planning and two research centers: the Center for Cultural Sustainability and the Center for Urban and Regional Planning Research. With 800 undergraduate and graduate students, the CACP is supported by full-time faculty members and adjunct faculty drawn from the local design and construction community. The CACP is located in downtown San Antonio, one of America’s oldest and most culturally diverse cities where design, construction and research find unique topics of inquiry. The College’s faculty is committed to education, and to building an institution that fosters intellectual excellence and collegiality.

(2)    Curriculum vita and/or resume. If candidate is currently working toward a terminal degree, please give evidence of graduate hours completed.

(3)    List of at least three references with all contact information.

(4)    Sample publications or a 15 to 20 page non-returnable portfolio (in PDF format): provide work that is representative of research/creative practice, teaching ability, and student work.
