[Bldg-sim] USGBC and EE4 models

I agree, even if they aren't familiar with EE4 then they should still accept the (.doe) DOE-2.1E input files created by EE4 and the (.sim) output files.

Hi Chris,

1. In general, the USGBC does not approve or certify software for LEED
energy modelling. Instead, the requirement for LEED Submission is that the
software must meet the specification of the relevant ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G
Performance Rating Method. Refer to G2.2 for all the details.

2. EE4 is based on DOE 2.1E which I believe it has been tested in
accordance with ASHRAE Standard 140. Similar software include EnergyPro
(actually they are from the same developer).

3. Refer to ADVANCED ENERGY MODELING FOR LEED
http://www.gbci.org/files/leedonline/Advanced_Energy_Modeling_for_LEED_V2_1c.pdf
Appendix
B where they listed commonly used simulation software. As I mentioned
Energypro which use the same engine as EE4 is listed.

Personally I do not see a problem by using EE4 provided you model 90.1
baseline separately. But I have no experience of submitting a EE4 model to
the USGBC for LEED. The best bet is to seek answer from USGBC directly.
