Ming,

There has to be an instance of IfcSpace in the IFC file.  This object 
type is mapped to ZONE in EnergyPlus and is the central object that 
defines thermal surface boundaries for a simulation.  We may be able to 
work around the absence of an IfcSite instance, but you will have to 
create spaces in your models to use IFCtoIDF.

Send me your IFC file and tell me exactly how you created it.
