Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] questions on zone geometry



1.  EnergyPlus uses thickness only for heat transfer calculations to determine 
thermal resistance and mass.  For geometry and shading calculations, surfaces 
have no thickness except when there is a window reveal (window is set back from 
the exterior surface of the wall).

2.  A thick air space is difficult to model.  The EnergyPlus airspace material 
is simply a constant thermal resistance.  There is no convection or radiant 
heat transfer within the airspace.  You must consult other sources to determine 
an appropriate resistance for the airspace.
