Is it really complaining about this surface?  It would appear that you have 
defined the surface correctly for an "interior" surface.

Do you mean Interzone surfaces?  There, the other zone surface must have 
the same number of layers and be "reverse" of the first.  That is, if the 
first zone's surface is:

brick, (outside layer)
air,
gypsum board;  (inside layer)

then, the other one must be:
gypsum board,  (outside layer)
air,
brick;  (inside layer)
