[EnergyPlus_Support] water heater source side capabilities

Must the source side of a water heater:mixed necessarily have a
bypass? I am trying to model the supply side a heat recovery loop
with a pump (as the supply inlet branch), a water heater (source
side), and an exit pipe. Although the branches pass integrity
testing, I receive a node connection error at the water heater inlet
node with the statement that the inlet node did not find an
appropriate matching "outlet" node. Same is true for the supply exit
pipe. In the supply side of the loop, I have 15 m/s flow in and 0 m/s
flow out. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
