Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] EPW weather files doubt

Andy,

Indeed that is how most of the weather files that are available
on the EnergyPlus web site are created. Look at the Weather
Data sources page--it has references to the original data and
their reports. I'd particularly suggest you look at the TMY2
report (since it can be downloaded). It lays out the process
clearly.

FYI, I did a paper about 8-9 years ago comparing the 'typical'
weather with the real years of weather data. The typical weather
generally did a fairly good job of being average among the
years it came from. I could dig up the paper if you'd like.

PS There's nothing magical in creating the EPW files. We simply
translate the existing data into a consistent format (virtually every
one of the typical data have their own format).

Hi everyone, here goes my first post...:
Does anyone know how EPW files are put together?
I´ve heared one version but not sure if it´s correct and would
appreciate a confirmation if at all possible, and it goes like this
(applicable to US data(?)):
There are average data records over time for particular locations,
these includes average min. temp., average max. temp., relative
humidity, etc, etc. for the various months. What´s done is
a "typical" average month is found, from what ever year, that comes
close to this averages, and the exact data that constitutes particular
month is what goes into the EPW file. And this way, the complete year
is made, theoretically, including the info of 12 months in up to 12
different years. Is this so? The alternative I guess could be
creating a "synthetic" month (year rather) where the data is in fact
the average of many different years.
Anyone know?
Thanks so much for any comments!

Andy
