I'm not sure that a PDF file for a different (and different kind of) 
program would be terribly useful to most of the users.

Our example files are mostly models for testing the program (and 
simple illustrations of using a feature) -- we have initiated a task 
(or two) to create some more realistic example files that would 
likely include the detailed documentation you describe.
