By trigger, I mean a control variable that sets a threshold for
darkening the tint of electrochromic glazing. This is explained under
WindowShadingControl Shading Control Type.

You did not ask about shades in your first message. You can also use the
Shading Control Types in WindowShadingControl to deploy (add) a shade
that has been defined as inside, outside, or between glass layers of a
window. You will also have to read the Input/Output Reference
documentation on Material:WindowShade.
