[Equest-users] Equest-users Digest, Vol 3, Issue 3

When entering the zones into the Design Wizard is there any way to
specify their names. The automatic naming by Equest is not very
intuitive and going back in the Detailed Edit to change all the Zone
Names and then their Corresponding Space Names is tedious.

Ian Doebber

Kevin-

I would highly recommend doing all geometry in the wizard. If not you
will need to create each space/zone by hand which will be incredibly
tedious and unnecessary. If you are worried about the clutter of
schedules, materials, etc... i would recommend deleting them in the
input text file.

Good luck.

Hello All,

I have just bought a new computer and am running eQuest in Vista. I
have
followed the instructions posted to run eQuest as if in Windows 2000.

However, I'm running into an issue that is problematic: When I use the
regular explorer view to view my project files, any new documents
created by
eQuest are not shown in the windows explorer. This means that I cannot
open
.inp files, .pd2 files or hourly report files. When I'm in eQuest and
open
a file, eQuest can see everything just fine. Any thoughts on how to
remedy
this? I do need to view these file types!

Thanks for your help!

I generally only extract the polygons to a new word doc by means of cut
and
paste. Which means I still create all spaces/zones. I suppose I should
get
into custom libraries to speed up the process further. Do you feel the
most
efficient way is to just deal with the glob? Or go cutty-pasty on it?

Hi All,

So I may have just answered my own question: When I reset the program
compatibility to Windows XP instead of Windows 2000, the problem was
solved
HOWEVER, all projects I did before making this change are now not shown
when
I open eQuest and select "Open Existing Project." I also needed to
re-download all weather files, etc. This is not a big deal, as I have
only
created test files so far... let me know if you have any other
suggestions.

You could look at how the wizard generates a cad reference, and then
insert
the text into your own pd2 file (I think that's where it goes). Brandon
Nichols created a document explaining how to clean up the "CAD file not
found" error, this would be a good place to start...

This way you're not loading a file with tons of errors post-cutting of
all
the junk.

Kevin-

I guess its a matter of preference. Personally, I like having eQuest
create all the zones and spaces for me. Then I go back after and
delete all mention of the cad file in the .pd2 file. I also clean out
the .inp as well. It only takes an hour or so. I would imagine for a
complex building creating the zones and spaces manually would take
much more than that.
