I¹m re-posting this to the group because:

1. I never saw it come through on the mailing list and
2. I¹ve been having e-mail problems, and it¹s possible the original never
got through.

I apologize if anyone is seeing this twice.

Conversation: Missing Single Run Reports
Subject: Missing Single Run Reports

This post is intended to describe how to correct the problem of missing
Project / Runs and Single Run Reports in eQUEST. The problem looks like
this: You perform a simulation and everything seems to run fine, but when
you select the "View Summary Results / Reports. . .", you get blank pages.
If you select the "Project / Runs" tab in the lower left hand corner of the
screen, you get a blank project tree. This appears to be the same problem
described in these two posts:

http://lists.onebuilding.org/htdig.cgi/equest-users-onebuilding.org/2008-Jul
y/000259.html

http://lists.onebuilding.org/htdig.cgi/equest-users-onebuilding.org/2008-Aug
ust/000309.html

I asked Scott Criswell how to fix this. (Our correspondence is included
below in case my summary leaves out some important aspect.)

SUMMARY

When eQUEST tries to display the reports, it looks for the project's ".pdh"
file to populate the projects list. It can only find the .pdh if it's
located in one of the following places:

C:\Program Files\eQUEST v3-xx\Projects

or:

<either user-specific My Documents or the public documents folder>\eQUEST
v3-xx Projects

Anything other than those two and eQuest can¹t find the pdh files, thus,
blank reports. Move the project files back into one of these file
structures and you're fine.

In effect, this seems to require that project files be stored on the "C:\"
drive. If located on a network drive you're out of luck. (Disclaimer, I
run eQUEST on a virtual PC inside a Macintosh. I don't understand the finer
points of Windows directory structures. If you can improve on this summary,
by all means please do so.)

Below is my correspondence with Scott Criswell:

Well ... if you promise to write up a nice report for us ...
Your underlying premise may be the principle problem here. Reports in the
Results Module of eQUEST are not populated from CSVs, but rather from the
binary results files output from the DOE-2 simulation. There also needs to
be a valid eQ run history (.pdh) for the project and all the corresponding
results files need to be named as they were when the run was performed.
Here is a brief rundown on what eQUEST is looking for to populate the
Projects/Runs tree in the eQUEST Results Module:
2 paths are searched: the "default" projects directory and all its
subdirectories as well as the path where the current project is located (in
the event that the current project path does not lie under the default
projects path). The "default" path for versions thru mid-3.63 is something
like "C:\Program Files\eQUEST v3-xx\Projects" and for the latest pre-release
versions of 3.63 (and future versions) it is "<either user-specific My
Documents or the public documents folder>\eQUEST v3-xx Projects".
These paths are searched for eQUEST run history files (*.pdh). If found,
and include 1 or more runs for which DOE-2 simulation results files exist,
then those entries are added to the Projects/Runs tree.
Each time a new Project/Run/Report combination is selected, the data with
which we populate the report are read from corresponding binary DOE-2
simulation results files. These files include:
*.lrp, srp, erp - Loads, Systems (HVAC/global) & Economic non-hourly results
(populate most reports)
*.lin, sin - Load & Systems (HVAC/global) hourly results

Hope this helps to clarify things - and eel free to forward this info on to
others

- Scott

Gentlemen ‹ is there a known issue with eQuest ³losing² Single-Run reports?
See the attached tiff file. You can see that my ³tree² of single run
reports is empty, and I can¹t figure out how to tell eQuest to go out and
find the csv files that seem to feed these reports. (If I have it right
from reading the mailing list archives, the csv files feed these reports.)

This is a frustrating problem. A few other users have encountered it, but
the solution seems to be hit or miss. Doing a SAVE AS without a ³dot² in
the filename doesn¹t work for me ‹ at least not consistently. See:

If you can solve this one for me, I promise to write up a nice report and
post it to the mailing list. :-)
