[Equest-users] eQuest Incremental Life-Cycle Savings Question

Hello All,

 

I am new to eQuest, and I am having trouble understanding some things in the
life cycle costs summary report.  I have not been able to locate any help
file information or any information in the forums for this topic, but if
anyone could point me in the right direction either to a help file or from
their own experience, that would be much appreciated.  

 

Under the comparison reports section, on the Life Cycle Costs Summary
Report, I see three areas: Life Cycle Costs, Incremental Life Cycle Savings,
and Cumulative Life Cycle Savings.  When I input the information to populate
the life cycle costs area in the EEM Wizard (baseline, Alt # 1, Alt # 2, .,
Alt # n) I am given the option to apply the measure to the previous entry
(default) or to the baseline run, or to any other previously entered
alternative.  When I apply the measure to the baseline, it appears as
entered in the life cycle costs area.  When I apply the measure to the
previous entry, it appears as the sum of the two entries in the life cycle
costs area.  I was wondering if someone could please give me an example of
when applying the measure to the previous entry would be appropriate.  I
don't yet understand why this is beneficial or what information it provides
(it just confuses me :-) ).  When I enter the information and apply the
measure to the baseline run, I get data that makes sense to me, and I get an
output in the cumulative life-cycle savings area that matches other software
that I am learning.  The Incremental Life Cycle Savings area is a mystery to
me.  When I input all of the information applied to the baseline run, in the
incremental life cycle savings area, the entries are evaluated against the
entry in the line above, and the savings are calculated against the line
above, not against the baseline.  I don't understand why this data is
important or how this data can be helpful because I feel like it displays
misleading results.   Can someone please explain this method and how it is
helpful?  I have tried to make my question clear, but if I haven't
succeeded, please let me know and I can try to explain it differently.  Any
help is much appreciated.  Thank you for your time.
