[Equest-users] Accuracy of spaces in small home model

I'm afraid you may have to wait for the masters' input, but in the
meantime here's my thoughts:

Can I just reduce the footprint and volume, etc. of the underroof space
to not include the vaulted ceilings, and then increase the volume of the
atrium spaces.

At some point, it's important to keep in mind that a "pretty" model and
an "accurate" model are not always one and the same. If you change
volumes of spaces, and change the areas of the associated surfaces
accordingly, then you'll model the thermal behavior correctly. Keep in
mind that you'll want to pick up any potentially changing surface/system
associations (i.e. A living room with a 'newly' vaulted ceiling may
then have some roof surface area to be tied to it.).

Also, can i get rid of the air wall that the wizards created to connect
the spaces? Sorry about being so long-winded.

Deleting any internal partition, including air walls and adiabatic
walls, will completely disconnect the two spaces. They simply will not
transfer heat from one space to the other, nor will any heat be stored
in the partition. You absolutely can, just understand the associated
effect and whether those effects are desired and possibly detrimental to
the desired level of accuracy.

Also, pictures can ALWAYS help others respond ;).

Subject: [Equest-users] Accuracy of spaces in small home model

eQUEST Masters;

I made significant changes to the geometry of a home in the detailed
interface, and it seems that the space shapes created by the wizard and
viewable in the 2D tab are no longer accurate. Specifically, I divided
the underoof space with an interior wall so that some of it is truly
between the ceiling and the roof and some of it is "headroom" under
vaulted ceilings that follow the roofline. Can I just reduce the
footprint and volume, etc. of the underroof space to not include the
vaulted ceilings, and then increase the volume of the atrium spaces.
Also, can i get rid of the air wall that the wizards created to connect
the spaces? Sorry about being so long-winded.

thanks,

jacob
