[Equest-users] Partial roof

To elaborate on Matthew’s answer:

While there are multiple right answers, I think there is no way to do partially exposed roofs on stacked shells entirely within the wizards – you’ll have to do some degree of edits in detailed mode.

Exterior walls with partial exposure are a different story – see archives.

I use a similar procedure that’s potentially less aesthetic/ quicker: First wrap up the wizards defining a roof for the lower shell(s) as Matthew describes.

Once in detailed, note you get one roof surface per plenum zone. First, delete any & all “completely sandwiched” roof sections.

Next, go through the roof sections that are partially exposed (double click) and rather than copy/ assign/edit the polygon shape per Matt’s procedure, you may find it a little faster to try the following:

- Open the roof section in question (easiest from 3D View)

- Change the default ‘Top’ location to ‘V1 of space…”

- Set:

o Z = your floor to floor height

o Tilt = 0

o Height/Width = the desired area

o (Optional): Mess with X/Y coordinates if necessary to ensure the partial roof section is exposed

o (Optional): Mess with X/Y coordinates further if you want it to look pretty and not have roof sections/”holes” floating all over the place – if that’s the end goal however I’d suggest being more precise and using the polygon shapes per Matthew’s procedure.

…and you’re done! Rinse and repeat for the remaining partial roof sections – note much of these edits are identical and can be done quickly in spreadsheet view once you’ve identified/tagged which roof sections need the edits (by selecting “V1…”).

I usually do this in the detailed mode. I have the wizard create a roof covering the whole plenum space and then when I go into the detailed mode, I find the polygon corresponding with the plenum space I want to change the roof to partial and make a copy of that polygon.

You can then change the shape of the new copied polygon to what you want your partial roof to be.

Then change your roof that is over the whole plenum space to the Top of the new coped polygon.

Hope I hit what you were looking for and if anyone else has other suggestions or wants to elaborate, please share.

Thanks,

Subject: [Equest-users] Partial roof

This my first request so please inform me if I am proceeding incorrectly.

I'm trying to put a partial roof n lower shell. I think I should create a roof on the relevant plenum space with a new polygon. My problem is getting started. I can't find a location to create the roof. What is the first step? Should I do something iin the Wizards?

Thank you,
Craig Scaperotta
