[Hap-users] roof / attic

If you have an unconditioned attic space not functioning as a plenum, is it correct to model the roof and ceiling as one layer? That is, can you assume all heat gain / loss through the roof is also transmitted to / from the space? I would assume not since air is an insulator, however treating the ceiling as a partition & guessing the attic temperatures at outside design extremes is too much of a wild guess in my opinion.

Any comments on this would be appreciated.
