[TRNSYS-users] Shadings, walls and windows

Martin,
I would add to Ewen's response with a clarification that what you
have to add in Trnsys3D is a series of shading objects sticking out like
fins perpendicular to the perimeter of the window. Do not try and draw
the actual thickness of the wall in Trnsys3D; the T3D model is a wire
frame model.

A few other words of caution here as well. First, 50cm thick walls
have so much mass in them that they can give TRNBuild a lot of trouble
when it tries to come up with a representative transfer function. I
would try and specify those walls very early in the process so that you
do not waste a lot of time constructing a model that will not work later
on. Second, before you draw a whole lot of shading objects, consider the
use of Type34 instead. If all the windows are the same size and face the
same direction, the shading effect of the thick wall can be computed
using a single Type34 and then passing the shaded radiation to Type56 as
the solar radiation falling on each of the windows. Note that you will
have to assign a different ORIENTATION to the windows in TRNBuild.
Kind regards,
  David
