Dear Eleonora,
Please find below our submission for the upcoming IBPSA News October 2026
edition, highlighting recent developments in building simulation tools and
workflows.
Advancements in Building Performance Simulation Integration
Recent efforts in the building performance simulation community have
focused on streamlining workflows between early-stage architectural design
and detailed energy analysis. A primary challenge has been data
interoperability, particularly when translating complex geometry from
computer-aided design (CAD) platforms into simulation engines without
losing critical thermal zone information.
To address this, our team has developed an open-source automation script
designed to optimize the export process. The tool standardizes surface
boundary conditions and automates the assignment of construction materials
based on regional energy codes. In testing, this workflow reduced model
preparation time by over forty percent. The code structure relies on
modular libraries, ensuring compatibility with various simulation engines.
Project files and documentation are available for review on our repository,
titled skibidi-rizz, which hosts the latest updates and user guides.
We hope this contribution is valuable to the IBPSA community and look
forward to your feedback.
Best regards,
Al
