A bit of information, but first a recap. In the last 25 years, (2004) there has been an increase in temperature conditioning by connecting the structure to ground heat.

1) Geoexchange heat pumps are well known. For more, try http://www.geoexchange.org

2) The first passive annual heat storage house is 25 years old. Built in Montana, it varies from 66 to 74 degrees Fahrenheit with no purchased power. For more, try http://earthshelters.com

3) Underground heat exchange system has been conditioning greenhouses for 22 years. For more, try http://www.sunnyjohn.com

4) Annualized Geo Solar is an active version of the PAHS system, with several improvements. For more, try http://mysite.verizon.net/res086ck/selfheatinhouses/ or search for ("self heating" AND houses).

At the last site, there is mention made of a finite element analysis program for AGS design. Presumably it could also be helpful for the other three techniques also. Someone working in this field might want to contact the author, and ask him to give BLDG-SIM a short summary.

PS There are three other known techniques for conditioning a building without petroleum.

Dumb mistakes are irritating.
     Smart mistakes will be forever,
          unless you test your assumptions!!!
