Here are the responses through 1pm today. 74 people
responded and the table below shows the frequency of the
responses (use a fixed pitch font to see the table).

         Often Occasional Infrequent   Once  Never
Java       2       3          7          8     40
C          7       9          6          7     31
C++       12      11          7          6     30
C#         2       0          3          1     49
VB        22      10         18          5     14
FORTRAN   20      14         16          7     12
Pascal     2       2          8          5     41
VB.NET     1       4          2          3     49
COBOL      0       0          0          3     54
Lisp       2       2          3          4     50
Perl       2       4          7          4     43
Python     4       1          3          2     49
JavaScript 0       3          7          6     44

  VB is Visual Basic
  Pascal includes Delphi/Kylix
  Lisp includes Scheme

Conclusions:

a) VB and FORTRAN are the clear favorites and it are
probably too close to say which is most popular.

b) C++ and C are next.

c) The scripting languages, Perl, Python and JavaScript are
used by just a few.

d) Microsoft's newest .Net languages C# and VB.net are
still not used much.

e) COBOL is dead (at least for simulation).

Thanks to everyone for participating.
