Below is an announcement of a new joint position between the College
of Architecture and the Department of Civil and Architectural
Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago,
IL.

IIT is looking for applicants at all levels, but especially at the
senior level. Areas of special interest include: (1) sustainability and
energy efficiency in building design; (2) structural design in
architecture; (3) computational fluid dynamics modeling in building
science; (4) indoor air quality; (5) building lighting and/or
electrical system design; (6) building controls or (7) building
envelope components.

As this is a joint appointment, faculty must have both an interest and

Announcement:

Illinois Institute of Technology, Department of Civil and
Architectural Engineering and College of Architecture announce the
opening for a joint faculty position. The suitable candidate will
have a joint appointment with Civil and Architectural Engineering
(which is housed within IIT's Armour College of Engineering) and the
College of Architecture. The position is expected to be filled no
later than August 1, 2007. Applications will be considered until
April 30, 2007 or until the position is filled. Special consideration
will be given to those candidates who qualify for appointment at an
associate or full professor level. The general expertise is expected
in the area of holistic building integration of building envelops and
control systems, with emphasis on architectural design. Specific
areas of expertise within one or more of the following areas are
preferred: (1) sustainability and energy efficiency in building
design; (2) structural design in architecture; (3) computational fluid
dynamics modeling in building science; (4) indoor air quality; (5)
building lighting and/or electrical system design; (6) building
controls or (7) building envelope components.

For a candidate to a joint appointment with Architecture and
Architectural Engineering, he/she must have the experience and
technical background to teach engineering analysis and design as well
as architectural design courses; experience and technical background
needed to develop a research program that results in significant
research grants that support graduate students (from both College of
Architecture and Civil and Architectural Engineering Department); and,
a record of published research results in recognized technical
journals. We would also expect the candidate to help better integrate
the teaching and research between Architecture and Architectural
Engineering. The College of Architecture, in collaboration with
Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, is in the process
of establishing a research center in the area of building science, and
the chosen candidate is expected to have a major role in this center.
Preferred minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate in
engineering or a terminal degree in architecture with a professional
engineering license and a significant track record in related research
areas. Salary and rank will be appropriate to the credentials of the
selected applicant.

The College of Architecture at IIT has an enrollment size of about 537
undergraduate and 217 graduate students; and, the Civil and
Architectural Engineering has an enrollment of about 200 undergraduate
and 145 graduate students. The information on the current faculty
size, research areas, and undergraduate and graduate degree programs
of the College of Architecture and the Department of Civil and
Architectural Engineering can be found on IIT's web site
