[Bldg-sim] FW: geothermal and cooling tower WSHP

Karen,
I suspect the problem is with how the geothermal loop is being sized. Is
the loop size based on the heating load?

Subject: [Bldg-sim] geothermal and cooling tower WSHP
Hi All,
I'm working on a system where a geothermal loop and a cooling tower both
supply cooling to a WSHP loop. I am trying to control the loop so that
cooling load goes first to the geothermal loop and second to the cooling
tower as the ground loop will not be sufficient to provide cooling
year-round.
I have run up against some funny things.
1. If I let the program auto-size the cooling tower and use it's
default control, I get a negative number for heat rejection energy (the
cooling tower is given a capacity of -10 MBTU/hr with fan energy listed
at -41 kw)
2. If I size the cooling tower according to design at 4.2 MBTU/hr, the
entire program shuts down
3. If I try to run the model without the cooling tower, the entire
program shuts down
Any thoughts?
Thank You,

Karen
