I do not believe 90.1 applies to the project you describe. I have
modeled a few 3-story condo buildings and feel that the Standard is
equally inappropriate for those. Unfortunately, since LEED does not
recognize Standard 90.2, (and I do not believe 90.2 has a section
equivalent to 90.1's Appendix G,) we are stuck trying to apply as much
of the Standard as is appropriate.

Subject: [Bldg-sim] ASHRAE 90.1 & LEED NC applicability to Low rise
hotels

Hello,

I am working on the energy simulation of a hotel building of two floor
height and one lakh square foot.
Is ASHRAE 90.1-2004 and LEED NC applicable for this project?

I found the following relevant sections;

LEED NC Page 14, "III A : When to Use LEED for New Construction" ,
according to this, hotel of any size is a commercial occupancy and LEED
NC is applicable.

According to ASHRAE 90.1-2004 definition of "low rise residential" as
given on Page 9, hotels doesn't come under low rise residential
buildings. And as per the foot notes of Table G3.1.1A on page 176 of
Appendix G ASHRAE 90.1-2004, hotel is considered as a residential
building but not a low rise residential building and ASHRAE is only not
applicable to low rise residential building.

From all the above it is clear that ASHRAE 90.1-2004 and LEED NC are
applicable for this project, however it would be great if anyone can
give more inputs in this regard.

Thanks & Regards,

RamesH. PVN
