[Bldg-sim] Earth tubes/tunnels/channels tips and references

A number of people replied to my question from last week. Thanks!
The list was not copied, so I'll summarize the responses:
 
Use EnergyPlus or TRNSYS to simulate earth-to-air heat exchangers.
Use the GAEA program - free trial download here:
            http://nesa1.uni-siegen.de/index.htm?/softlab/gaea_e.htm
Designs must allow for automatic removal of condensation (such as by installing earth tubes at an angle of at least 2-3 degrees).
Earth tubes can provide a consistent 3-5°C temperature rise in winter preheating applications.

Subject: Earth tubes/tunnels/channels for building retrofit
 
I am performing mechanical design and energy modeling for an existing dormitory renovation in upstate NY. There is a concrete crawlspace with ground contact that I think could be used to preheat/precool makeup air. I have checked the Bldg-sim archives but have not found any design guides or recommendations for using existing crawlspaces/basements as earth tubes. We'd be cutting through concrete structural walls to build something so I need to do some homework to justify it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
