Assistant Professor of Architecture -Environmental Building Design

The Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania seeks
qualified applicants for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant
Professor for the 2011-2012 academic year beginning July 1, 2011. This is a
tenure-track appointment to the standing faculty, who are responsible for
maintaining and extending the discipline of architecture through their
teaching, scholarship, and participation in the governance of the Department
and School.

The position is for candidates qualified to offer graduate-level instruction
in environmental technologies, building performance simulation, and/or
environmental building design. Faculty members in all specializations are
involved in design instruction at some level, and applicants should
demonstrate how their work contributes in this area. At Penn, instruction in
architecture is offered at the undergraduate, professional,
post-professional, and doctoral levels, and environmental topics have been
integrated in different ways at each level, including an undergraduate
dual-major in Environmental Studies, a master level certificate program in
Ecological Architecture, and a post-professional Master of Environmental
Building Design. Teaching may occur at all levels, and there is also an
established research unit in the subject area, the TC Chan Center for
Building Simulation and Energy Studies.

Applicants should describe their agendas for research and/or design practice
in their area of specialization, and have some experience in teaching. At a
minimum, they should have a Master of Architecture or a PhD in the area of
specialization. A review of applications will begin on November 1, 2010 and
continue until the position is filled. Applicants should provide a letter of
interest, curriculum vitae, a description of their teaching, research,
and/or practice agenda, a portfolio of design work, samples of student work,
publications, and the names and contact information for three references.
