We recently became aware of this problem.  It is occuring with all 
plain alpha fields (those which are not selected from a list).  
Numeric characters display, but alphas do not.  For example, "Wall 
01" will display as "01" in the grid.  As you correctly noted, this 
is only a disaply problem in the grid.  The full value is shown in 
the edit box and is written correctly to the idf file.  We will post 
a new idf editor when this has been fixed.
