[EnergyPlus_Support] question about Window 5
In my program, I specify each window dimension as 3'x5'. The window designed using default glazing, framing, and dividers in Window 5 has over 10% smaller dimensions. The warning message said that this will effect my frame heat transfer calculations if the frame in the data file is not uniform (i.e. change in geometry or properties). Since my frame is completely uniform, can I just not change anything and the window heat transfer calculated will have the properties from the data file but be the 3'x5' size that I specified in my E+ program.
If I do need to make a correction, is there a way to change the dimensions of the specified window in the data file or Window5 program to 3'x5' or do I have to start from scratch to make my own frame system in THERM and import it into Window5.
Thanks
Ian

My reply to question 2 as a WINDOW 5 user is that a "window" in WINDOW5
is the sum of the related glass and frame members that you specify. The
frame members are calculated in THERM and referenced by WINDOWS5. Some
default frames may exist, but the accuracy of your window system calcs
relies on an accurate description of the whole assembly. For energy
modeling, I also typically include part of the wall in the window frame
because there are some installed window effects that are not accounted
for if the normal adabatic conditions at the frame edge.
