RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] very primary!/Answer included

Abeer,

Yes DesignBuilder is appropriate for architectural applications including
evaluation of different building envelopes and schedules/internal gains. It
comes with its own internal EnergyPlus engine but can also be configured to
use the EnergyPlus program supplied by DOE. DesignBuilder does provide
access to the EnergyPlus detailed daylighting calculations so it can
calculate the necessary amount of electrical lighting to supplement
daylighting and consequently the impact on heating and cooling loads.

Regards,

Andy

Thanks a lot for making it clear..so DesignBuilder can be sufficient for
"architectural application"; evaluating different building envelope &
schedules/internal gains parameters? also need to check: it uses EnergyPlus
engine so it can calculate required artificial lighting to supplement
daylighting inadequacy and consequently the impact on heating/cooling load?
  Thanks, kind regards
  Abeer

DesignBuilder provides a comprehensive user interface for
modelling
buildings including creation of geometry, fabric, glazing, shading, natural
ventilation, lighting with optional control etc etc, but it has only limited
options for EnergyPlus HVAC simulations. It provides access to the
EnergyPlus 'purchased air' heating and cooling systems, 'high temperature
radiant' systems and the 'Compact HVAC'. So in view of the current
limitations with HVAC modelling in DesignBuilder, many people use it for
creating the basic building model and then export the model in IDF format
and enter HVAC systems using the EnergyPlus IDF editor.

We are currently working on a comprehensive interface for EnergyPlus HVAC
systems and hope to release this in beta test form towards the end of the
year.

Thanks again for your reply, but excuse me if DesignBuilder has these
advantages of ease of use and built in EnergyPlus engine, over EnergyPlus,
what makes EnergyPlus advantageous to use over DesignBuilder???

Does this mean that DesignBuilder has the same capabilities of
EnergyPlus?..or it's much simplified than it?
Thanks, regards
Abeer

DESIGNBUILDER IS A USER FRIENDLY INTERFACE THAT INTERFACES DIRECTLY TO
ENERGYPLUS (AND CAN WRITE AN INPUT FILE) AS WELL AS HAVING INTERNAL
CAPABILITIES OF ITS OWN.
