I am not an expert on the earth tubes, but as best I know, the earth tube is currently modeled as just zone equipment, so when the air heat balance is performed on the zone, any addition from the earth tube is simply another term in the heat balance. The earth tube model does allow you to add a fan to the earth tube so that you can account for power used by a mechanical device, but I don't think an earth tube can be embedded into the hvac system any further than this. Your idea for the small zone is interesting, and may be the best work-around.

Hello everybody,
I am modelling passive buildings in E+.
Such buildings have a mechanical ventilation with economizer and heat
exchangers between the fresh air and exhaust fluxes.
The fresh air comes alternatively from either the outside either an
groud air exchanger (earthTube) according to the available
temperatures and the control strategy (heating or cooling).
The problem with E+ is that the outlet of the eathTube is always a
zone and the inlet of the mechanical ventilation the outside air.
Did someone try to model this ? How ?
If not, is it possible to plug the mechanical ventilation fresh air
inlet into a zone connected to the earth tube ? We could put a well
insulated small zone in the building for that specific purpose.
