Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Interior windows, opaque surfaces

A bit more detail and some possible new discrepancies:

By subdividing the large window of the double skin in front of the smaller interior zone windows, I was able to get a value for Zone Beam for the rest of the zones. For the most part, the value for each zone is the same as it was for the reporting zones when I was only getting beam on a couple of the expected zones. So this is controllable.

However, when I subdivide the large window into multiple windows, I get a different result for Zone Transmitted Solar for the exterior zone (where I subdivided the window). The total exterior window area is, of course, the same, and the window is not shaded at all. Turns out, the Zone Diffuse Solar from Exterior Windows total is exactly the same for both models, but the Zone Beam Solar from Exterior Windows is a bit less in the model with the window subdivided (11% for one version, 5% for another). This is pretty significant.

No complaints, I just need to know why so I can control it.

  Linda, Rob.

Unfortunately the project is not public, so I can't do that, but I have figured out a couple of things.

The discripancy between some interior windows getting beam solar and some not had to do with the exterior window being alot larger than the interior windows. In the shading calc, some of the interior windows were aparently missed in the overshadowing scan. Might be something to note in the IO reference. There is good documentation on that in the Engineering Ref.

My other questions still need clarification: Why is Zone Beam Solar from Interior Windows so much smaller than Zone Diffuse Solar...? (this is consistent in all my models), etc...

Please upload your file to the problem submittals area. Along with
which ones you say are failing.
