There are some very notable motherboards out there that have two or more sockets. For example, going back
a while... 

Intel 'SLT2'  a dual socket Pentium III flip chip package  "Socket 370" motherboard that takes
Pentium III CPUs up to  1.2 Ghz,  anything over  933 Mhz is a real bear to get the heat sinks on it...

Intel 'SE7525GP2'  motherboard a  dual socket ZEON motherboard. With 533 mhz front side bus.
This is a very important motherboard because it can take single core ZEON CPUs up to 3.8 GHZ
stock speed, and the 533 Mhz board is slow relative to the current memory availability.......
unfortunately the CPUs reject 130 watts EACH at stock speeds....
The board has PCI express x16 Graphics card slot,  x4 PCI express slot, 2 PCI 66 slots, 2 PCI 32 slots....
and can run Intel server / workstation management software without booting the machine !!!
This mobo has onboard SATA RAID also...

Tyan has a new motherboard out that has 4 sockets for AMD Opteron and each chip can have 4 cores....
The problem here is that the board is so so  low volume it costs  $850 just for the board.

As you can tell I'm really into the hardware acceleration and I am interested in running some more complex
benchmarks to get to the bottom of the Energy Plus run time situation.

I have four different machines to make the runs. These machines represent the state of the art in PC configurations
from 1999 to the present.  Contact me directly if  you are interested in these benchmarks

  1. I'll try running E+ w/ virus protection shut off (and PC off the Web). I wasn't aware that McAfee or its ilk would slow down this type of process.
  2. I am told by Dell that "Core Duo" and "Core Quad" PCs are single processor machines with multiple cores (whatever that means).  I'm not sure if that makes a difference to E+; how can I tell?
  3. Do we know how much memory is required to hold the entire program? and whether additional memory helps (much)?
  4. Since I already have plans to automate the graphing of output data (numbers alone are SO cumbersome to analyze), do you care to share any details re: how you did that and what difficulties or pitfalls you ran into?
