[EnergyPlus_Support] IdealLoads and Thermostats

Does the ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem object always require a
thermostat? I'm trying to model a condition where an atrium space -
which is surrounded by offices - is used as a return air plenum for
the office spaces.

To keep things simple, I've used the IdealLoads object and set my
Heating Supply Air Temp to 24 deg C and my Cooling Supply Air Temp to
20 deg C. I haven't included a thermostat in order to see what
happens if conditions in the highly glazed atrium are allowed to float.

However, when I do this, the 'System Node Temp' results for the Zone
Supply Air Node' to the atrium are not 24 and 20. They actually look
like they're the same as the Return Air Node for that zone.

Any thoughts? Do you always need a thermostat with IdealLoads? If
so, should I just model this with a simple AirDistributionUnit?

Thanks!
