i would like some clarification of the 'Normal' used in 'Direct Normal Radiation, in the weather file.
Part of the definition given in the documentation is:
"Amount of solar radiation in Wh/m2 received directly from the solar disk on a surface perpendicular to the sun's rays, ..........."
i placed a radiation sensor (it haa a flat disc covering it) inside a tube and pointed it at the sun. To make sure it is perpendicular to the sun's rays, i made the tube track the sun each time i took raadings.
The readings are, not surprisingly, practically constant, especially when there are no clouds. But the hourly data for a day given in the weather file seems to follow a bell or sine shape, peaking around noon.
Hope to be better informed on why 'Normal' is used to qualify the Direct radiation and 'Horizontal' is used to qualify the Global and Diffuse radiations used for EnergyPlus calculations.
