[EnergyPlus_Support] WEATHER FILE ALTERNATIVE LOCATION-acceptability

I want to simulate a building located in Guayaquil (GYE) but there is no official weather file for this location on the EnergyPlus Weather file website. There is a metereonorm file but I am concern about the acceptability of this file since Metereonorm statistical approach is regarded to be the last option. I would like to know some recommendations about choosing the weather file of a nearby location with measured data as preferable resource over extrapolation from Metereonorm. What are the aspects that I should look at when choosing the weather file of an alternative location? What are the main guidelines to follow when choosing the file from another location? Are there limits in terms of latitude of the alternative location, max, min, average temperature, radiation?etc?? What are the key values that I should compared between real location and alternative one?? I am concerned about the accuracy of an alternative weather file to represent the climate conditions of the place where the building will be located?
