better and more consistent results.
Quoting from the feature proposal document: Justification for feature update: The EnergyPlus condenser loop manages the simulation of all plant
environmental heat exchangers, including cooling towers, fluid coolers,
water-side economizers, ground coupled heat exchangers, surface water
heat exchangers and ground water heat exchangers. Control and
configuration of these heat exchangers is an important component of
virtually all LZEB (Low/Zero Energy Building) plant designs.
Currently the EnergyPlus condenser simulation is structured in a way that
precludes the implementation of innovative condenser loop control and
configuration schemes. Restrictions on the number, placement, and
control of loop pumps, the types and locations of setpoint managers, the
load calculation algorithm and the flow resolution algorithm all restrict
the flexible simulation of LZEB condenser loop options.
Overview: This enhancement task will propagate the structures and algorithms
recently implemented in the EnergyPlus plant loop simulation to the
condenser loop simulation. These upgrades, which were implemented
in the plant loop simulation specifically to support LZEB plant options,
include:
headered pumps
loop and branch pumps
common pipes
enhanced flow resolution
enhanced setpoint managers
enhanced loop load calculation algorithm
